I had a similar problem recently with Opera 9 Beta and I resolved it by installing the newest version. But now downloading and installing newest version hasn’t helped.
I’m running Windows XP (Service Pack 2).

I use Opera, and have NEVER had a problem with it. Do you use programs like Ad-Aware, SpyBot, and a good anti-Virus program? It is possible you have some malware on your computer. A complete re-install should have worked fine..??

What MAC said is correct.
Close the opera browser before uninstalling.
Just uninstall it and use any registry cleaner to clean your registry…after the cleaning,go to where opera was installed and see if the folder is still there and delete it….it should be in “Program file” unless you changed the destination when it was installing.
Note:-you can access the the program files folder from My computer>>>Local Disk>>>>then program files.
